What's New In The "News"

For Once, I Agree with Obama?

Obama calls $18 billion in Wall Street bonuses “shameful”. I could not agree more! But, does that explain why the top executives at Fannie Mae, after the mortgage crisis fall-out, walked away with millions in benefits. Would that not be the same?

Kudos To Congress!

Once again, Nancy Pelosi proves that doing the right thing is wrong in politics. After her stern defense of Tim Geithner (4 years of Tax evasion) for Treasury Secretary; Congress followed suit and confirmed his selection. Does anyone else, besides me, believe that Viles of "Crack" are legal in Washington!

Nice Try Barack

Republican Senator Judd Gregg is in the running for Commerce Secretary. Is this a Bi-Partisan move or political strategy? Judd is an exceptional pick, but if he is chosen and accepts; that would leave an open Senate seat for the Democratic Governor to select a Democrat. And if Al Frankin wins his bid to steal a Senate seat in Minnesota, that would lead to a Super-Majority control by the Democrats. So, yes that would come off as a partisan defense, but in the sake of the nation, an extreme "Right" or "Left" is not good for the country.

Finally; Some Justice In Politics

Rod Blagojevich is gone: thrown out for abuse of power, including allegations that he tried to sell President-elect Barack Obama's vacant Senate seat. "It's our duty to clean up the mess and stop the freak show that's become Illinois government," said Rep. Jack D. Franks, a Democrat. As for me; I am happy to see Republicans and Democrats alike, working together to uphold a sense a ethical order in our system of government. Of course the only opposing vote came from a "Chicago" Democrat (Milton Patterson); big surprise there, some ghosts just linger around.

Ode To Madoff

House Arrest In a Posh Apartment (While Being Able To Visit Local Eateries), Does Not Seem Like Justice For The People He Screwed Out Of Millions. I Am Sure Another Greedy Banker Will Get A Slap On The Wrist; As Usual. Mr. Gekko Would Be Proud.

Can I Have Some Cheese With That Whine

I am sorry if I have the, still lingering, Hillary Clinton proclamation; that there is a "right-wing" conspiracy against her husband, on my mind. All of which was during the "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Monica Lewinsky" scandal; and impending impeachment proceedings. Now, we can all look up the definition of conspiracy, but then again, anyone looking to seek punishment, justice, or fairness, could be labeled a conspirator (We all know that is subjective). But who are we fooling, the entire political process is a conspiracy; encompassed by a continuing movement to oust "the other guy". That is not news, but the hypocrisy in her tongue falls in line with so many others that mock the idea that there could be any "left-wing" bias or conspiracy in the media. Yeah, yeah, this is old news, I know; and with the recent rise of alternative news programs outside of "Left, Leftist, And Even More Left" channels, there is still an imbalance for some. I would just like the news to be what it is; "The News". I don't want insights from some pompous reporter, or subjective analysis from some celebrity newscaster; I just want the News. But forget the news, where a balance between "favoritism" and the "public" needs to dealt with; let's say with "White Gloves". The more blatant bias, censorship, and purposeful agenda lies within general programming, where producers can hide behind fictional characters, comedy, and theatrical expression. But surprisingly enough, comedy was one area where everything was "Fair Game", nothing escaped the scope of ridicule, and one arena that "all sides" could poke fun of each other in good spirit.

But apparently, NBC has decided to play politics, and not surprisingly, "leftist" favoritism by pulling an SNL skit off the Internet that poked fun at Democrats and the Mortgage Crisis during the 2008 presidential election. Given the format that SNL has favored for years, there is no political figure that has been spared a characterisation in a flamboyant manner. Humor was the point, and though SNL was heavily embraced in the Obama corner, they had everyone in their cross-hairs. And who cared, it was good television. Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Clinton, Gore, Dub-ya, Cheney, McCain, Palin, Obama, Pelosi, Reed, Frank; and the list goes on and on. I for one will never forget Dana Carvey's impression of Bush senior, one of my favorites (and Dana was a big fan of Bush). When questioned about the decision, NBC spokesman Marc Liepis told the National Review only this:

UPON REVIEW, WE CAUGHT CERTAIN ELEMENTS IN THE SKETCH THAT DIDN'T MEET OUR STANDARDS. WE TOOK IT DOWN AND MADE SOME MINOR CHANGES AND IT WILL BE BACK ONLINE SOON.

NBC sources say the objection has to do with the caption underneath the two mortgage-backed securities investors who made off with billions, which reads: People who should be shot. The same sources say the video will be edited to remove that language and returned to the website. We are still waiting; and if this issue was not brought up, I doubt that the response would have been so forthcoming. But, I will give them credit for finding a convenient "loophole" for their decision process. But aren't these the same people that that support uncensored television and explicit record label lyrics and find it completely absurd that movie violence or music is responsible for criminal behavior. So, if that is the case, why remove it - I mean, just because it says "People That Should Be Shot", does not mean we will; right? Aren't these the same people that ripped Sarah Palin (which I found Tina Fey to be spot on) for months, without any remorse? Aren't these the same people that produced a skit about Governor Patterson from New York, who is legally blind? On yeah, he whined about it too. Give me a break; seems like a lot of people have their "Panties In A Bunch" about this one. Have you seen language on TV: SNL is a far cry from explicit. But then again, while we dismiss the apparent whining, this has been viewed as a blatant bias to remove anything "Anti-Left" or that is discriminatory towards the Democratic party. I mean; how do you crate an "Aura" that George Bush is "Evil" and the cause of "All" of our issues, when you publicize (with humor of course) the Democrat's involvement in one of the biggest financial collapses of our time? But of course, that would not help the "Demon-i-zation" process that some held dear.....relax everyone; this was just meant to be a comedic skit.

So, while I appreciate NBC's plight to save the children of America from egregious material, explicit content, and supposed criminal enablers, forgive me for not being so "Warm and Fuzzy". But since I have to give everyone some benefit of the doubt; maybe they do care and it is not some left-wing conspiracy or bias (Naahh). So, Hilary, I will have to confess I may agree with you on one thing - everything is a conspiracy. In the meantime, enjoy the video; it is hilarious (My favorite is the Barney Frank re-dux: spot on as well). And may SNL keep doing what they do best, create comedy, controversy, and discussion - even if I too, do not agree with everything they say. Because laughter is the one thing that brings people together; and may be the only thing. And for good measure, I used a Fox News clip (From YouTube), just to add more "conspiracy" to the mix - hey it is an "All Spin Zone" here.
